Snowriver Resort

Snowriver Mountain Resort – the winter spirit of the U.P.

Nestled among mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, it is an oasis for families year-round.

A serene getaway with 160″ of annual snowfall, not to mention crisp, cooling breezes off the 917 miles of Lake Superior shoreline even during the summer months, Snowriver allows you to get swept away in the grandeur of nature.

Beyond the rugged, natural beauty, Snowriver has a robust support system in the Midwestern Family Ski Corporation. Snowriver will carry on the tradition of being a destination for people seeking nature, adventure, and time together. MFSC will help guests maximize enjoyment while giving back to the surrounding communities with good stewardship of the natural resources and healthy respect for the people who have long called this special place home. As an extension of Lutsen and Granite Peak, Snowriver will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the best ways to create year-round access to nature and recreation.

Comprised of two mountains Snowriver Mountain Resort offers the selection of various terrain and opportunities for powder runs days after snowstorms! In the future we anticipate connecting these two properties via a lift system and currently we provide a shuttle every 30 minutes between our base area operations for fun on both hills.

Indianhead Valley Condos & Chalets

A distinct benefit of Indianhead Valley Condos is our location. Being located at the base of Indianhead Mountain and 1 mile from Blackjack Mountain means less prep time before being able to hit the slopes. For the snowmobiler Indianhead Valley has easy access to Trail 2, the main corridor across Gogebic county. Being located this close to the trail eliminates the need to trailer your sled to a drop off area to ride then go back afterwards load up and drive back to the condo just to do it all over again tomorrow.

Black River Lodge

Come to the Black River Lodge where the Northern Lights dance, the coyote howl, deer roam and unique Northwoods themed rooms and condos are waiting for your arrival so that you can enjoy the peace and quiet and adventures that the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has to offer. Black River Lodge offers a unique vacation experience in the heart of the Western U.P. Big Snow Country. We are located a short drive from your choice of five downhill ski areas. Big Powderhorn Mountain is just a couple minutes down the road. Blackjack and Indianhead Mountain are close by. Whitecap Mountain is 19 miles away and the Porcupine Mountains are less than an hour’s drive. Snowmobilers will find access to hundreds of miles of the best snowmobile trails in the country.

Summertime temperatures are usually in the 70’s and 80’s; Lake Superior is our “natural air conditioner” and there’s seldom the need to use any other. Activities abound with “something” for everyone — golf, tennis, canoeing, boating, biking, hiking, lake, stream and charter boat fishing, swimming, agate and driftwood hunting, picnicking and much more. Visit nearby waterfalls and see the ultimate experience of nature’s powerful majesty as the snow melt of winter rushes over them. For anglers, hundreds of miles of trout streams and Lake Superior’s near-shore offer Coho Salmon, Steelhead, Lake, Brown and Brook Trout. The Black River Lodge is located on 65 acres of forests with trails leading directly to the Black River.

Autumn brings a Color Extravaganza unequaled as over 50 varieties of trees come ablaze. It’s a spectacular sight with reds, oranges, golds and yellows mixed among the many pines, spruce, balsam and hemlock evergreens. Take a ride to the top of Copperpeak and receive the full-experience of the fall color! We are nestled in the woods that prompted the Chicago Tribune to write… “Nowhere in North America, not even New England, are the colors of Autumn more vivid and memorable.”

THE CISCO CHAIN OF LAKES is comprised of 15 navigable lakes with 270 miles of shoreline.  Thousand Island Lake is the largest of these scenic lakes and has numerous islands and bays.  A day boating on the chain is a memorable one… be sure to include the smaller uninhabited lakes, too.

WALLEYES, MUSKIES (the state record musky was caught in 1980 on our lake!) large and smallmouth bass, northerns, perch, crappies, and other panfish are plentiful.  Many trophy fish are taken each year.  Thousand Island also contains lake trout, splake, and cisco.  Explore any of the 302 lakes and 241 miles of trout streams located in Watersmeet alone.
