Ironwood Theatre
Written by wuadmin on .
The Ironwood Theatre was incorporated in 1988 as an independent, non-profit cultural organization and the building is leased from the City of Ironwood. The Ironwood Theatre assumes all operating costs, maintenance and repairs of the facility. In the absence of local tax support, it is funded by ticket sales, user fees, several annual fund raisers, a Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs grant, along with area business support and other fundraising activities. The Ironwood Theatre is a volunteer based organization with a 12 member Board of Directors and a complete staff of over 20 regular staff members and over 100 individual event staff members, all of which are voluntary work and time donors.
Ironwood
Written by wuadmin on .
The City of Ironwood, located in Gogebic County in the western Upper Peninsula, is quickly becoming the “discovered” jewel of the north! Commonly referred to as the “Western Gateway to Michigan”, Ironwood is realizing a renaissance that is returning the city to its historical place as the areas leader in shopping, industry and culture.
As with many of the communities of Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula, the decline and eventual extinction of the mining industry brought depression and despair to Golf Course the once wealthy Gogebic Range. While many communities would have simply thrown in the towel, the people of Ironwood and the surrounding area regrouped, and began the transformation that is still taking place today.
The economy of Ironwood, as well as Gogebic County, has evolved from being one Man and Boy Fishing dimensional, to a diverse and well-rounded market. While many think of the western UP as being in the wilderness, one-visit surprises most that choose to explore the area. In the summer there is fishing, biking, hiking, waterfalls (there are dozens) and the mother of all lakes, the majestic Superior. As the seasons change, the color of the northern hardwoods becomes more brilliant than words can describe. In winter there is snowmobiling, skiing at Powderhorn, Blackjack and Indianhead, as well as at Gogebic Community College, home to one of the countries premier ski hill management programs.
It’s an easy drive from the major cities in the Midwest and a great recreational, vacation destination. With Bessemer, Ramsay, Wakefield and Lake Gogegic to the east, Lake Superior 15 miles to the north and Hurley, WI right next door, Ironwood offers visitors a wide range of activities and breath-taking scenery. Approximate drive times: Minneapolis to Ironwood (4 hours), Milwaukee to Ironwood (6 hours), Chicago to Ironwood (8 hours)

Written by wuadmin on .
This turn of the century depot is dedicated to life on the Gogebic Range. It exhibits history of the mining days, the school systems dating back over 100 years, and the history of the old railroad system.
The train depot was constructed in 1892 and was active during the iron mining boom days of the Gogebic Range, which ended in 1966. The beautiful structure is built of sandstone and brick in Richard Romanesque style. The depot is the last remaining one on the Gogebic Range and is home to the Ironwood Area Historical Society Museum and the Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
Open 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Memorial Day to Labor Day or by appointment.

Indianhead Valley Condos & Chalets
Written by wuadmin on .
A distinct benefit of Indianhead Valley Condos is our location. Being located at the base of Indianhead Mountain and 1 mile from Blackjack Mountain means less prep time before being able to hit the slopes. For the snowmobiler Indianhead Valley has easy access to Trail 2, the main corridor across Gogebic county. Being located this close to the trail eliminates the need to trailer your sled to a drop off area to ride then go back afterwards load up and drive back to the condo just to do it all over again tomorrow.
